Cause and Cure for Silent Inflammation
Silent inflammation is the first sign your body’s out of balance and you’re no longer well.
You can’t feel it, but it’s grinding down your heart, your brain, and your immune system.
Actually, there are 3 underlying hormonal changes linked to silent inflammation.

Is Silent Inflammation in Your Genes?
Why do we have this growing epidemic of silent inflammation?
Blame it on your genes.
Evolution tends to favor those characteristics that make them better equipped to pass their genes on to the next generation.
Nature favors those individuals who’re more efficient at storing fat, which would enable them to survive during lean times.
Body fat is vital for survival.
Insulin is the hormone allowing us to easily store away fat for a rainy day.
Our genes evolved to increase insulin in 2 ways: eating too many carbohydrates or eating too many calories.
Now fast-forward to present-day America.
We have no more famines, and we’re constantly feasting on inexpensive food rich in carbohydrates.
But our DNA still lives in the Stone Age.
So if we eat too much on a regular basis, our cells pump out more and more insulin.
As a result, we store more and more fat!
We now have an obesity epidemic on our hands, which means a corresponding epidemic of silent inflammation.
The very genes that saved our ancestors are now our biggest liability.
The same is true of our ability to generate a strong inflammatory response.
This was the only way to survive microbial or parasitic invasions.
As recently as 70 years ago, we had very few weapons against infectious diseases except a strong inflammatory response to kill the organisms.
All we could do was hope and pray our immune system would protect us.
Those of us with overactive immune systems had a better chance of survival than those with weaker immune defenses.
Today, we’re faced with far fewer infectious disease threats.
Vaccinations, clean water, and increased sanitation have banished many microbes.
What’s more, we have a whole arsenal of drugs.
While it’s true you can’t replace your genes, you can change their expression by altering your diet and lifestyle.
Controlling Your Genes
If the genes that increased our chances for survival also increase the likelihood of silent inflammation, then how did we get as far as we have?
The answer lies with diet and lifestyle.
For much of our time on earth, humans followed an anti-inflammatory diet working with our pro-inflammatory genes.
This was a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, lean protein, and long-chain omega-3 fats while poor in omega-6 fats.
This diet had virtually no grains or starches.
As a result, silent inflammation was kept under control.
With the advent of agriculture, things started to change and now our diet is completely out of harmony with our genes.
Of course, we can’t go back to the hunter/gatherer days.
But we can change our current eating habits.
This is the key to returning to a state of wellness and keeping yourself there for a lifetime.
Certain anti-inflammation foods like extra-virgin olive oil, wine, sesame oil, turmeric, and ginger are important in the fight against silent inflammation.
A comprehensive (but simple-to-follow) exercise plan is needed to help keep insulin levels in check.
Cortisol reduction strategies like meditation will boost these hormonal benefits even further.
Think of these lifestyle changes as if they’re “drugs” you have to take on a daily basis to control silent inflammation.
Or you can choose to do nothing – but then you’ll have to face the ravages of aging, a consequence of increasing levels of silent inflammation.
