Starting Your Juice Fast

The first thing you need for a juice fast is a willingness to make a dynamic change.

The next thing is, well, juice.

We can’t use a blender for this because it leaves the pulp in juice.

And as much as we love a smoothie and the benefits of fiber, it’s not part of the Alpha Reset.

We’re giving your digestive tract a break.

So you need a juicer that squeezes the live juice out of the vegetables and discards the pulp.

How do you know which juicer to buy?

There are many models on the market and they range in price from $50 for a juicer that will likely burn out in a month to over $1,000 for the really high-end models.

But we recommend a juicer somewhere in the middle.

Ready to begin?

All you need are some fresh, local organic fruit and vegetables, water, and a juice extractor.

With a juicer, you end up with juice – the fresh, pure, natural heart of the plant.

It’s important to use organic fruits and vegetables, not only because they contain more nutrients, but also because they’re pesticide-free.

The point of a juice fast is to get rid of toxins, not to add a few more in.

What you juice is up to you, but you typically don’t want to combine more than 3 fruits or vegetables together.

As a rule of thumb, especially when just starting out, stick to one category at a time – fruit or vegetable.

The two don’t always play well together in a glass.

Also, fruit can spike your blood sugar levels and could cause your energy to crash later on in the day.

Personally the 2 fruits we go with if we absolutely need them are pears and apples, they tend to be a little bit lower in sugar (and of course lemons).

But feel free to mix and match, come up with your own juice recipes, and be sure to share any new blends you develop with us!

To make things easy, we’ve broken fruits and veggies down into 6 categories, which we’ll talk about in the next post.

They’ll help you better understand what each fruit or vegetable type does for your body, as well as help you keep your nutrition balanced.

While you’re on the juice fast, you’ll also need to drink at least 6 glasses of room temperature water each day.

Your body processes room temperature water more effectively, because it doesn’t have to work so hard to warm it up.

When you drink ice water your body has to go into overdrive to metabolize it and anything else in your stomach.

And, to keep yourself fully energized, drink a juice mix every 90 minutes or whenever you feel like you’re hungry.
