The Real Cause of Cancer

No one really knows what causes a normal cell to start rapidly dividing and become cancerous.

No one knows why your immune system, which usually destroys these stray cancer cells, sometimes fails, allowing the cells to divide and grow into tumors.

One explanation may be your immune system is already in overdrive from fighting silent inflammation and it may simply fail to work right.

Here are some of the main mechanisms of cancer growth and how inflammation is involved in each.


The biggest threat caused by cancer usually isn’t the primary tumor but the spread or metastasis of the tumor to other parts of your body.

Metastases are helped by a group of “bad” eicosanoids.

These eicosanoids allow tumor cells to get a foothold in a distant part of your body.

The best way to reduce the making of these “bad” eicosanoids is the same way you reduce all “bad” eicosanoids – lower your silent inflammation profile using high-dose fish oil.


We often think of cancer cells as growing out of control, but another explanation is also possible.

Maybe cancer cells are simply cells with faulty internal time clocks.

Programmed cell death, or apoptosis, is vital for our functioning.

If we didn’t have apoptosis, we’d have no way to continually replace old cells with new ones.

For many years, researchers thought cancer was an out-of-control condition causing madly dividing malignant cells that would live forever.

How could they ever stop these immortal cells reproducing so quickly?

Now many researchers are beginning to theorize that tumor cells may simply be cells that have forgotten when to die.

Several new anticancer drugs are now being tested to cause apoptosis.

The trouble is, they cause this state in both normal and malignant cells, which often means severe side effects.

There is, however, one way to cause apoptosis only in tumor cells – high-dose fish oil.

Fish oil can be extremely effective in making cancer cells more susceptible to apoptosis caused by chemotherapy or radiation, while sparing normal cells from the devastating effects of cancer treatments.


Tumors grow by diverting nutrients from your body to themselves.

They sprout new blood vessels to gain access to these nutrients, a process called angiogenesis.

The emphasis of cancer research is to find a compound reducing angiogenesis.

Research has shown the most powerful of the “bad” pro-inflammatory eicosanoids actually promote angiogenesis.

You can lower your levels of these eicosanoids by improving your silent inflammation profile.


In end-stage cancer, one of the biggest threats people face is wasting or cachexia.

This rapid weight loss usually means the end is near.

Cachexia is quickened by increased levels of pro-inflammatory eicosanoids in your bloodstream.

Since fish oil is known to slow the release of these eicosanoids, supplementing your diet with high enough levels should reduce, if not reverse, weight loss and extend your life span.

In fact, this is exactly what happens.

In a study, when people with cachexia were given high levels of fish oil daily, they actually gained weight, and the control group continued to lose weight.

Further studies of people with advanced pancreatic cancer have used doses as high as 18 grams of fish oil per day.

In these studies, people who took fish oil survived far beyond what was predicted for their end-stage cancers.

The Insulin Connection

As early as 1919, physicians knew blood sugar levels predicted the prognosis for a cancer patient:  the higher the blood sugar level, the bleaker the prognosis.

As you already know, insulin resistance causes high blood sugar.

The reason high blood sugar levels are so predictive is cancer cells need high levels of blood sugar to survive.

And, the insulin resistance that increases blood sugar levels also increases insulin levels.

This excess insulin further promotes cell division in tumor cells.

So while excess blood sugar feeds tumor cells, excess insulin encourages them to divide.

In fact, studies from Italy found those who followed diets rich in starches (like pasta) were at increased risk of cancer compared to those who had a lower glycemic-load diet.

Insulin resistance and cancer are a deadly combination – one you don’t want if you’re diagnosed with cancer.
