Yay!! I’ve lost 25.6 pounds total so far with 54.4 pounds to go to reach my goal!  My BMI has dropped from 36.9 to 33.1 and my goal BMI is 24.9.

As it turned out, that gigantic ego check was exactly what Jillian needed.

The move put her back in her element and made her humble and hungry enough to work hard again.

After a long time of trying to live up to someone else’s definition of success, she was back where she belonged.

And happy, for the first time in years.

Within just a few months, she’d helped the center extend its offerings and open a full gym.

Her client list started to fill up – she was working with celebrities, Hollywood agents and producers, all new clients who had come to her because of her time in the entertainment industry.

As she became more established, she’d get to speak with these celebrities’ nutritionists, dietitians, and sports medicine doctors, all the best in the business.

She never wasted a chance to pick their brains.

She’d take the theories she learned and say, “Explain Atkins to me.  Where’s the science behind this diet?  What is it really doing?”

The picture was gradually becoming clearer, but she still wasn’t putting all the pieces together – especially not about what was happening in her own body.

By the following year, she’d opened her own sports medicine facility in Beverly Hills, complete with 3 physical therapists, a physiatrist, and a chiropractor.

Soon after, she started getting calls from different magazines whenever they needed an interview on a new fitness, diet, or weight-loss phenomenon.

Professionally, she was rockin’ and her future looked bright.

But through it all, she was still constantly struggling to keep her weight down.

The only reason she was staying in shape was because she was meticulous about counting calories.

She was training her body rigorously for 7-8 hours a week.

Even as she told her clients to drink tons of water, she was heavily addicted to caffeine, pounding diet sodas hourly.

Heaven forbid she should fall off the wagon for a few days.

She’d instantly gain 5 pounds, which would then drive her back to the grueling routine.

After all the effort she’d put into learning about diet and nutrition, she just couldn’t figure out why all her working out and freaky eating habits weren’t doing the trick.

She really thought she’d been royally screwed in the genetics department – that her metabolism just sucked, and she’d never be able to have it as easy as others.

But as it turned out, the reality was that a body can handle that kind of strain for only so long before it gives out completely.

Which is what happened when she joined the cast of The Biggest Loser.

Now, if a girl’s gonna go on TV and inspire people to lose hundreds of pounds, she’s gotta look good, right?

That was her guiding thought as she prepared to be on camera.

“I have to be ripped.  Gotta make an impression,” she’d tell herself, so she’d severely restrict her calories to 1200 a day while killing herself in the gym.

She thought this was the only way to get her body in amazing shape.

She had one chance to get people’s attention and make an impression.

She had to be in the best shape of her life – to walk the walk, you might say.

Well, she walked the walk, all right – the walk of the living dead.

She was exhausted.

Worked to the bone and stressed to the max.

As soon as the season ended, she went from 1200 calories a day to a healthy 1800, a perfectly reasonable shift for someone who worked out as hard as she did.

And she put on 15 pounds practically overnight.

But it wasn’t like she just went home and stuffed herself with pizza.

She was still working out 5 hours a week!

If she had a single glass of wine, she gained weight.

Again, she had to kill herself to get it back off.

Something else was going on.

This is ridiculous, she thought.

Something was definitely wrong with her metabolism.

It just shouldn’t be this bloody hard.
