What’s In Your Smoothie?

Smoothies can be a healthy way to start off your morning – but beware!

Many varieties offered at popular smoothie chains are little more than fruity milkshakes.

For example, a Jamba Juice Orange Dream Machine contains orange juice and orange sherbet – but no actual oranges!

But at the same smoothie shop, you can order a Five Fruit Frenzy, made with strawberries, blueberries, bananas, mangoes, and peaches – a much healthier option.

Read labels carefully before you order your morning smoothie, or better yet, save calories and money by blending your own drink at home!

Recipe of the Day:  Strawberry-Pear Smoothie

This is an excellent smoothie if you’re trying to lose weight.

Makes 1 smoothie

1 cup strawberries

2 medium pears, cored

1 cup blueberries

1 teaspoon soaked chia seeds

3 cups fresh baby spinach, chopped (or other leafy green)

4 to 6 of ounces filtered water

*Use as many organic ingredients as possible.

Add all the ingredients except for the spinach to your blender and hit the “pulse” button a few times.

Next, add the spinach and blend on high for 30 seconds or until the smoothie is creamy.
